Workshop “China’s Global Investment 2.0” for Hainan Province High-level Delegation at Swiss-Sino Innovation Center

On December 5, 2019, a delegation of 25 members from Hainan Province led by the Deputy Minister of Hainan Organization Department, Mr. WU Mujun, visited the Swiss-Sino Innovation Center. The Director of SSIC, Dr. FENG Jianhua, the Deputy Director, Mr. WANG Zhi and the Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. WEI Xun warmly received the delegation.     

 

 

Dr. Feng welcomed the delegation from Hainan Province on behalf of SSIC and introduced the excellent integration of scientific research and industrial applications in Switzerland with a focus on the development of the pharma, medical and IT industries in Switzerland.     

  

Dr. Wei introduced the characteristics of Swiss innovation, the core functions and current development of SSIC, and how Switzerland's outstanding education system influences the society. The combination of excellent talents and technology with existing industries is the key momentum for the industrial upgrading and the economic and social development in Switzerland.       

 

 

The main part of the reception is Mr. Wang’s report on "China’s Global Investment 2.0". He introduced and analyzed the characteristics of China's global investment in the past, present and future, which is summarized and displayed on one slide (see below). His opinion was supported by solid cases with both successful and failed examples.   In order to design the best strategy to develop abroad, the overseas Chinese companies first need to answer the following questions:

2. What I do       

3. What I want to do here       

And further:       

4. What I can do for the local partner       

5. What I need from the local partner       

 

The key words of Mr. Wang’s report are “Understanding, Communication, and Talents”: understanding yourself and the partners is the prerequisite for international cooperation; long-term, systematic and effective internal and external communication guarantee the smooth and in-depth international cooperation; talents with professional skills, international experience, meticulous thinking, advanced global perspective and cognition are the basis of international cooperation.       

 

Mr. Wang pointed out that "Capital + Market + Talents" are the three key elements of innovation and TIME is the king of innovation. He refuted the opinion that Chinese culture is not in favor of innovation.

      

 

After the presentations, the hosts answered numerous questions from the audience and concluded that in order to promote the development of industries, it is necessary to cultivate both the foundation of industries and the education system. Mr. Wang also mentioned, talents to be needs not only from natural science, technology and engineering background, but also from social science background.       

 

Finally, Deputy Minister Mr. Wu Mujun of the Hainan Provincial Organization Department stated that platforms like SSIC are important to the Sino-Swiss cooperation in every aspects. SSIC is cordially invited to establish its branch in Hainan. Deputy Director of China Hainan Research Institute, Mr. XI Jinsong, and Deputy Director of Hainan Provincial Science and Technology Department, Mr. FU Lanping, invited SSIC representatives to visit Hainan in the near future.
