Hua WuPh.D., Bioengineer & Chemical Expert
Prof. Dr. Hua Wu received his Ph.D. in 1986 in chemical engineering from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and then joined in the same institute as an Assistant Research Professor. From May 1988 to May 1990, he, as a postdoctoral fellow, stayed at Polytechnic of Milan, Italy. From June 1990 to June 1999, he was employed as a senior engineer in Ausimont Company (Montedison Group), Italy. Then, from July 1999, he came back to academic, in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), as a senior scientist, professor, at Institute for Chemical and Biological Engineering. From May 2018, as “Yunling Talent Foreign Expert,” he has been Distinguished Professor at Kunming University of Science and Technology.
Prof. Wu started as an expert in chemical reactor and catalyst design in his early career. He overcame the theoretical problem of "Optimal Activity Distribution on Catalyst Particles" and "Operational Stability of Chemical Reactors." He with his coauthors has published a monograph, at Cambridge University Press, entitled "Parametric Sensitivity in Chemical Systems." During his employment at Ausimont Company, Italy, he developed a variety of new mechanically agitated multiphase reactors for emulsion and suspension polymerization of fluorinated materials, as well as new technologies for post-treatment of latexes. He applied for more than 10 patents with this company.
After jointed in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), he has been Supervisor for postdoctoral fellows, PhD students and postgraduate students, specializing in basic and applied research on nano and colloidal physical chemistry. His research interests include stability and aggregation behavior of inorganic, polymer and protein particles. He pioneered the colloidal engineering area, and he has been applying the colloidal engineering theory and technology to construct nanocomposites. He has published more than 120 papers in international core journals.
